Paracoders, Inc. Backgrounder

Here's a quick backgrounder on Paracoders, Inc. and some of the work that we have done for our clients.

In 2000, Paracoders, Inc. was formed. We're about to celebrate our 9th year in business.

Our lead engineer spent 6 1⁄2 years at Apple: first giving code level support to developers in the Developer Technical Support organization and then designing and developing system software as a lead engineer in the system software group.

Paracoders, Inc. has been part of the Apple iPhone OS Beta developer program since it was created.

We:

  • Designed and developed the iFood iPhone application for Genex and Kraft Foods.

  • Designed and developed the School of Rock iPhone application for Inspired Arts & Media and Paramount Home Entertainment.

  • Designed and developed the CEIVA Snap iPhone application for CEIVA Logic, Inc. which captures and geotags iPhone photos, then sends them to CEIVA Logic's website and digital picture frames.

  • Designed and developed the adorable Asking Santa iPhone application for TT&L Development, LLC which allows a user to create Christmas wish lists, send a child's list to Santa (with enagaging animation and a reply) and email lists to friends and family.

  • Designed and developed various iPhone applications for Inspired Arts & Media

  • Designed and developed The Spirit and Big Xmas iPhone applications for Lionsgate Entertainment and Big Stage Entertainment.

  • Designed and developed extensive Macintosh software for Creative Labs, as well as Emu/Ensoniq, Encore Electronics and Universal Audio.

  • Designed and developed software for CEIVA Logic, Inc. for exporting images from iPhoto to CEIVA Logic's website and digital picture frames.

  • Designed and developed hard drive utility applications and three versions of backup and multiple-workstation file synchronization software for Maxtor Corporation’s and Seagate Technologies’ desktop and networked storage devices.

  • Designed and developed applications and client/server daemons for EchoAnalysis, LLC (http://www.echoanalysis.com/) which sells cardiology imaging analysis software that’s being used by hospitals and was used during the Fen-phen diet drug lawsuits. The software allows you to import still and video images of echocardiographs, mark up areas of interest on top of the images and videos and generate 2D and 3D measurements of defects in a variety of ways. It also interacts with a central server via SOAP calls, features a secure online archiving and retrieval system and generates reports.

  • Designed and developed an application that securely synchronizes a user’s computers with a massive contact management and collaboration system over the Internet for Creative Manager, Inc. (http://www.creative-manager.com/) The client software communicates with the server using SSL and a custom XML protocol and syncs hundreds of data records a second. Also developed a status item for quick access to common features.

  • Designed and developed a CUPS printer driver, an administrative application and a print job authorization application. The software intercepts print jobs to handle print accounting (page counts and costs) keyword filtering, and authorization of print jobs for their PrintQuest software suite.

  • Designed and developed a Cocoa application that played interactive Flash content for Allegra. Flash content was provided by August Development and allowed users to view local pollen counts, track allergies and so on.

  • Designed and developed a Cocoa application that monitors and displays printer activity in more detail than the normal desktop printer window (shows account info, etc.).

  • Designed and developed a Cocoa front end for scientific applications written in UNIX for Al Meyers Consulting.

  • Designed and developed applications, a preferences pane and a storage device driver for CorePro, Inc. which caches all reads and writes to a hard drive so that the system can be reverted exactly to pre-boot conditions by simply rebooting the machine. Software was designed for use with schools and training centers. Software included a block storage driver, an administrative preferences panel, a privileged helper tool, a status item (menu bar application) to display protection status and quickly access features, and a 30-day demo mode.

  • Designed and developed applications and device drivers to enforce digital rights protection for the music and motion picture industries (preventing illegal duplication of content). Software detects patterns of illegal duplication of protected media.

We are equally comfortable working on applications or drivers, writing code in user space or kernel space, iPhone or Mac, and have written software to run on all versions of Mac OS X from 10.0 to 10.5 for large companies and small ones.

Since iPhone software development is derived from Mac OS X desktop software development, our background in Mac desktop software development (which goes back to 1984) has proven to be a great help with iPhone projects.
